MIRE
Music Imagery for Resilience and Emotional Regulation
Overview and Objectives
A combination of music listening with resource-oriented imagery has the potential to provide psychological support and rehabilitation to clients, by increasing mental resilience and emotional regulation. MIRE is one of the “Music and Care” methods to alleviate stress and psychological trauma, by helping people connect with their own resources and creativity through the power of music. It involves listening to selected music in a relaxed state with focused “positive” imagery in mind, followed by drawing and verbal processing with the therapist. In agreement with our priorities, we aim to train 30 mental health professionals (VETs) from 3 countries in the innovative MIRE intervention, to help them enrich their practices and build their capacity when working with traumatised people in a supportive way.
The objectives of the project are to:
- Design and Deliver MIRE Training: Develop and provide MIRE training and tools tailored for VETs working with psychological trauma, stress, and PTSD, incorporating theoretical, experiential teaching, and digital resources.
- Equip VETs with Music Therapy Skills: Familiarize VETs with trauma-informed music therapy, enhancing their musical skills and selection criteria through appropriate music analysis methods and digital playlists for online sessions.
- Disseminate and Implement MIRE: Promote the immediate adoption of MIRE in new workplaces, establishing it as a new therapeutic intervention.
- Enhance Professional Exchange and Collaboration: Facilitate transnational exchanges among professionals, leveraging the universal healing properties of music to address different cultural and therapeutic contexts.
Activities/Outputs
The project will develop and deliver comprehensive training materials and sessions, including consultations, focused on music imagery techniques for VETs. All partners will collaborate to create the project’s methodology and main elements, ensuring a cohesive and effective approach. They will engage relevant local stakeholders to support the process with their expertise. The project will also involve organising thorough training evaluations, impact assessments, and creating a web platform that houses various training resources. Additionally, each organisation will host a live event in their respective countries to introduce MIRE to the broader community and promote its adoption.
Impact
The project aims to enhance the skills of 30 mental health professionals in using MIRE interventions for trauma therapy. Trainees will increase their knowledge of therapeutic music uses, receive follow-up consultations, and create personalised music playlists. They will also submit case-study reports, complete evaluations, and present their work at local and online events. This comprehensive training will equip them with both theoretical and practical skills, contributing to their professional development and the advancement of their organisations.
