Dr Miriam Twomey

Module Lead for Autism

Miriam is the lead tutor on the Autism module at ICEP Europe and previously led the Master’s degree in Early Intervention Education at Trinity College Dublin, where she developed an interdisciplinary programme for educators and allied professionals spanning Education, Health, and Social Care. Her expertise focuses on autism and neurodivergence, inclusive and family-centred practice, and the role of families and educators. Her teaching and research emphasise co-designed, innovative and intergenerational learning approaches that place children with neurodevelopmental difference at the centre. Miriam’s Master’s and Doctoral research highlighted the transformative impact of addressing systemic inequities across education and health, as well as interventions supporting children with autism, their families and educators. Her current research advances inter- and transdisciplinary, affirmative phenomenological approaches to autism and neurodivergence. 

She has extensive experience across Early Years Education, Early Intervention, primary and post primary teaching. 

Miriam has been an academic advisor and Principal Investigator on commissioned national and European research projects and is a member of international and national research networks in the areas of Early Childhood Intervention, inclusion and education for Neurodivergent children and young people.
